Ruth H. White, a native of St. Stephen, South Carolina, departed this earth on October 4, 2009, four months before her 94th birthday. She lived in South Carolina for all of her years except for the last seven, during which she resided in Sierra Vista, Arizona. She attended school at the St. Stephen elementary and high school and received Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees in Education from South Carolina State College in Orangeburg, S.C. Ruth taught elementary school students for forty plus years and loved each of them as her very own. Consequently, she was very popular with them and some students corresponded with her and showed genuine concern about her well-being. She was a long time, active, and faithful member of Zion United Methodist Church in St. Stephen at both the local and district levels. While in Sierra Vista, she was affiliated with Shiloh Christian Ministries. Her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior has not diminished over the years. During her long and illustrative career, she was active in various community activities. She served as the treasurer for the Berkeley County Federal Credit Union and the State College Club of Berkeley County. She was also the first person of color to serve on the election committee in her hometown and was active in the Alpha Pi Chi Sorority. She was united in marriage to the late Amos H. White and unto this union one son was born. She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Gilbert (Larcenia); Grandson Steven White; granddaughter, Cheryl Cooley (Tyrone); great granddaughters Mariah and Janae along with loving sisters, cousins, and dear friends.
