Ruth Washington Williams was the daughter of the late Nathan and Rebecca Prioleau Washington of Pineville, South Carolina. She was born on May 8, 1930 and departed this life on December 23, 2013 at her home. Ruth was baptized and was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church, Pineville, SC. She sang with and played for the church choir until her declining health prevented her from doing what she loved to do. She served faithfully and fervently with the Cooper River Baptist Association Vocational Choir. Ruth received her early education in the public schools of Berkeley County, continuing her education with degrees from Morris College, Sumter, SC and South Carolina State University, Orangeburg, SC. She was employed by the Berkeley County School District for over 30 years. During her teaching career, she taught from the youngest child to adults. She received several awards and recognitions for her teaching. Her teaching recognitions included the Teacher of The Year for Adult Education for the State of South Carolina. She was also a member of the Alpha Tau Chapter of Alpha Phi Chi Sorority. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Isaiah Williams. To the union, there were three children: Darlene (Arthur, deceased), Calvin (Melissa) and Cedric (Exzerra). She leaves to cherish her memory: Darlene, Calvin and Cedric; eleven grandchildren: Adriana, Arthur III, Arland, Amanda, Asa, Brandon, Alexis, Yaeger, Christian, Matthew, and Jordan; five great-grandchildren: Madison, Zoe, Ashton, Greyson and Gabriella. Ruth is survived by two brothers and six sisters: Bertha Wilson (Samuel, deceased) of Moncks Corner, SC; Adam Washington (Lillie Mae) of Pineville, SC; a twin sister Naomi McCants of Marietta, GA; Isabelle Harvey of Pineville, SC; Virgie Lawrence (Wilbert) of Jamaica, NY; Lurnese Mitchell (James, deceased) of Jersey City, NY; Alphonzo Washington (Hilda, deceased) of St. Matthews, SC; and Mary Farrakhan of Pineville, SC; one sister-in-law Hester Manigault (Louis) of Moncks Corner, SC; a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins and a host of friends.
