Obituary

Very quietly and peacefully on Thursday afternoon, April 4, 2013, the Almighty God in His infinite wisdom, mercy, grace and compassion closed the eyes of our beloved "Sallie Louise Johnson". He wrapped her in His arms and took her to her rest. Sallie was born March 25, 1932 to Mary Anne Nelson in Marion, South Carolina. As an infant, she was adopted by Reverend Moses (Bubba Willie) and Anna Golden. Bessie Fisher and Lillie Mae White helped in raising Sallie, especially during her teenage years. Sallie attended the St. Stephen "Colored" School and graduated in 1950. Upon graduating, she relocated to Brooklyn, New York. In October 1956, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized and became a member of Zion Baptist Church. Sallie met Willie "Bill" Johnson in New York, and they were married on January 14, 1961. Sallie worked for many years as a Teacher's Assistant in New York. Sallie and Bill also opened their home to and served as parents for foster children whom they loved and cared for. Sallie and Bill relocated to St. Stephen, SC in 1981 and built a home. Sallie loved the Lord. After attending several churches, they found a home at St. Stephen Baptist Church. Sallie was employed as a Nursing Assistant at Magnolia Nursing Home in Moncks Corner. Upon retiring, she began working at Lake Moultrie Nursing Home in St. Stephen. She retired again in 2012. Sallie was preceded in death by her loving husband Bill and her parents. She leaves to cherish her loving memories: three sisters, Shirley McCoy and Patricia Hawkins of Richmond, VA and Francis Pasley of Brooklyn, NY; three foster sisters, Nancy (Lorenza) Kennedy, Vermell Jackson-Howard and Berthina White of Sumter, SC; many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and a host of neighbors and friends who love and will miss her.
