Sammy James Joyner, affectionately known in the community as "Froggie", the son of the late Marvin Joyner and Ethel Coads Joyner, was born on September 29, 1940 in the McBeth Section of Moncks Corner, South Carolina. He departed this life on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at his residence. Sammy was educated in the Berkeley County School System and graduated from Berkeley Training High School, Class of 1960. His informal education continued throughout his life as a veteran of the United States Army and through the numerous people he met as Founder and CEO of Joyner Insurance Company. Froggie met and married Mary Alice Brown when he was a young adult. They were blessed with four sons. After many years of marriage, his beloved Mary preceded him in death. He later met and married Rozell G. Wright. Froggie truly loved his family and was never hesitant to pick up the phone to call and check on his friends and family. He just wanted to say hello and see how things were going with everyone. Those early morning phone calls will surely be missed by his family. Those left to cherish his memories: his wife, Rozell G. Wright-Joyner; four sons, Samuel James Joyner, Marvin Ira Joyner, Quinton (Ikema) Joyner and Roberto Caulder; a stepdaughter, Tamara (Vincent) Muliro; a stepson, Calvin A. Wright. He leaves behind his greatly adored grandchildren: Candis, Shanesha, Courtney, Travon, Deon and Ty'shea; special friends & caregiver, Maggie Pettigrew and Paul Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
