Mrs. Serena Taylor Simmons, daughter of the late Willie and Eliza Taylor, was born on April 30, 1927 in Cordesville, South Carolina. She departed this life on Monday, August 17, 2015 at Heartland Health Care Center, Hanahan, SC. Serena grew up in a section of Cordesville called St. James where she received her education. Serena was united in Holy Matrimony to Pinckney Simmons, Jr. in 1952. This union was blessed with five children. Serena was a member of Irving Chapel A.M.E. Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. She also sang with the choir. After her marriage, she became a member of St. James Reformed Episcopal Church and served faithfully with the Choir. Serena will be remembered for her loving heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering faith in God. She will be greatly missed by many. Serena was preceded in death by one grandson Nathaniel Taylor. She leaves behind to cherish her memories: a loving husband, Pinckney Simmons, Jr.; two sons, Arthur Taylor and George (Gwen) Taylor; three daughters, Wilhelmenia (Ossie) Francis, Carolyn (Theodore) Reid and Teresa Simmons; ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; adopted children, Claretha (Abraham), Kevin and Walter; five sisters-in-law, Christine Cureton, Lucille Simmons, Geneva Laboon, Evangelist Elouise Simmons and Lillian Simmons Dixon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
