It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ms. Sharon Vestine Matthews of Champaign, IL, who peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, February 27, 2023.

Sharon Vestine Matthews was born on May 18, 1959 in Brooklyn, NY to Willie Augustus and Minnie Lee Matthews.

Sharon was the most amazing, loving woman. She made you feel comfortable in her presence and she left a huge impact on you, whether you were family, friend, or a neighbor. In her quiet times, she enjoyed reading, gardening and listening to jazz music.

Sharon graduated from Bushwick High School in 1977 and later served her country in the U.S. Army from 1980 to 1986. After her military service, she worked for Parkland College as an Administrative Assistant in Marketing and Public Relations for 34 years and retired in 2023.

In 1989, Sharon married Louis Johnson and from that union, she had her one and only son, Jason Alan Johnson.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents.

She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Jason Alan Johnson; two brothers, Nathan Matthews and Anthony J. McCoy; one sister, Gail E. Matthews; one goddaughter, Tosha Cunningham; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.

Her burial will take place on Sunday, March 19, 2023, 12:00 p.m., at Doctor Pond Cemetery in St. Stephen, SC.
