Mrs. Shirley Witherspoon was born on November 22, 1942 in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, daughter of Sarah Gibbs and Quiley Cohens. She peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Trident Medical Center, North Charleston, SC.

Shirley received her education in the public schools of Berkeley County, SC and was a graduate of Berkeley Training High School.  She later graduated from a nursing assistant program in New York and became a Certified Nurses' Assistant (CNA). She was employed at King Terrace Nursing Home and retired in 2009.

Shirley was united in holy matrimony to Rufus Witherspoon on November 8, 1962. They were married for 54 years.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Rufus Witherspoon;  two children,  Rufus Witherspoon Jr. and Yvette Kinard (Charles); three grandsons Duane, Savion, and Cayden; and a host of family and friends.
