Susan Gibbs Smalls , daughter of Anna Bell Gibbs and Arthur Brown, Jr., was born December 5, 1948 in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. On Thursday, March 25, 2021, Sue entered into eternal life with the Lord.
Sue, as she was known, received her education in the Berkeley County public schools. She was employed with the Berkeley County School District at Bonner Elementary School. She later became a Certified Nursing Assistant and began a career as a home health caregiver until her health began to decline.
Sue was a member of Mt. Carmel A.M.E. Church where she shared her singing talent. She sang with the Spiritual Wings, the Sanctuary Choir, and the Gospel Choir. Sue was not a stranger in any church; when she visited various churches, she did not hesitate to sing with the choirs. She also sang with several singing groups such as Big Sam and the Angelic Gospel Choir, the Progressive League MLK Choir, the Berkeley Male Choir and Pastor H.E. Dixon & Gospel Choir. Sue also supported the Berkeley Male Choir by sponsoring a yearly fundraiser.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Leroy Gibbs.
She will forever be remembered by: her children, Laura Gibbs, Larry (Julia) Gibbs, Soujerne (Tommie) Gibbs Matthews, Sunday Smalls and Tiawan (Betty) Smalls; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; siblings, James Gibbs, Joe Arthur (Mary) Ravenell, Jr., Franklin (Mandy) Ravenell, Eddie L. Ravenell, Mae Robinson, Mary L. Finney and James (Clara) Ravenell; aunts, Louise Gibbs, Daisy Dawson, Alma Burden and Tennie Brown; uncles, Joe Louis Gibbs and Sass Burden; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Viewing will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2021, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, April 1, 2021, 1:00 p.m., at Mt. Carmel AME Church Cemetery, 1059 Old Black Oak Road, Moncks Corner, SC. The service will be live-streamed on the funeral home's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/gethersfh
