Obituary

Mother Susie Campbell Smith, the daughter of Toby Campbell and Julia Greene Campbell, was born May 10, 1910, at Fair Field Plantation in the South Santee Community of McClellanville, South Carolina. Mother Smith departed this life on Monday morning, November 8, 2010, at 3:00 a.m. at her residence. Susie began her formal education in the Charleston County School System; but due to the passing of her mother, she discontinued her education and aided in raising her youngest sister, Beulah. At an early age, Susie joined Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Santee where she served as a Class Leader and Steward. In 1975, she became a member of the Bible Way Church of Georgetown where she served on the Mother's Board. In October 1999, Mother Smith became a member of the House of Prayer Church of God in Christ Jesus where she was a member of the Gospel Choir. She assisted in Praise and Worship several times. Her favorite songs were, "Jesus is Real to Me" and "Trouble in My Way". Mother Susie Smith was joined in Holy Matrimony to Deacon Johnny Smith who preceded her to the grave in 1997. This union was blessed with seven sons; one son, Myers Smith, preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memories: six sons, Deacon Samuel (Deaconess Daisy) Campbell, Elder Samuel (Stephanie) Smith of McClellanville, SC, Bishop John (Mother Joan) Smith of Georgetown, SC, Caregiver David (Jeanette) Smith, Rev. Jacob (Sis. Jattie) Smith, and Overseer Jimmie (First Lady Mary) Smith of McClellanville, SC; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jeanie Bates of Philadelphia, PA and Beulah Simmons of McClellanville, SC; and a host of other relatives and friends. Special Recognition to: Sis. Shirley McConnell, Missionary Mary Grayson, Bro. Lester Myers, Sis. Frances Boatwright, Elder James Simmons, Sis. Sherice Moultrie and Mother Naomi Elliott.
