It is with profound sadness and humble submission to God's will that we announce the passing of The Right Reverend Doctor Alphonza Gadsden, Sr., of Kingstree, South Carolina, who transitioned on Friday, January 17, 2025. He was a faithful leader in the Reformed Episcopal Church, serving as a Bishop and dedicating his life to sharing God's word and guiding others in their faith. His ministry was marked by compassion, wisdom, and a steadfast devotion to the Lord, which touched countless lives within the church and beyond.
He leaves a loving legacy cherished by his devoted wife, Mrs. Hester Brown Gadsden, and his children: Zylynda Gadsden Hopkins, Alphonza Long (Jane), Tamar Gadsden, Sherhonda Julius, Avery Cooper (Crystal), Stephen Cooper, and Ashley Gadsden; as well as his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and a host of friends.
The family is receiving friends from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the residence.
Services to Celebrate Bishop's Gadsden's Life and Legacy
Viewing: Thursday, January 23, 2025, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Gethers Funeral Home, 200 Grace Street, Moncks Corner, SC.
Viewing: Friday, January 24, 2025, 10:00 a.m. to 10:55 a.m., at Redeemer Reformed Episcopal Church, 2173 Highway 45, Pineville, SC. There will be no viewing after the service.
Funeral Service : Friday, January 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Redeemer Reformed Episcopal Church. The service will be live streamed on the funeral home's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/gethersfh
Burial: Friday, January 24, 2024, at Kingstree Memorial Gardens, 11091 Hemingway Highway, Kingstree, SC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the The Right Reverend Dr. Alphonza Gadsden, Sr. Scholarship Fund at Cummins Memorial Theological Seminary, continuing his passion for theological education and ministry.
