Thelma Marie Gethers was born October 3, 1945, to the late Colotha Johnson Gethers and Theodore Gethers, in the Oakley Community of Berkeley County, South Carolina. She departed this life on August 11, 2024, in North Charleston, South Carolina.

At an early age she became a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where she joined class number three. She loved making craft items for the church and the members. She was a faithful member until her health failed.

She was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County. She graduated in the Class of 1966. She continued her education at then South Carolina Area Trade School (currently Denmark Technical College) in Denmark, South Carolina, where she received a diploma in Commercial Sewing.

Thelma's love of craft afforded her the opportunity to give graciously to family, friends, church, and community.

Her love for children gave her the opportunity to work with the Berkeley-Dorchester Counties Economic Development Corporation. There she volunteered in the Head Start program for many years. She received several awards for her many years of humanitarian service.

She leaves to cherish her memory one brother, John Gethers, Bronx, NY, two sisters, Julie A. Glenn (Freddie) and Rev. Dr. Ethel G. Jefferson of Moncks Corner, SC. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Centenary United Methodist Church, 1837 Old Highway 52, Moncks Corner, SC. Burial will be in the church's cemetery.
