Obituary

Thomas L. Hutchinson , affectionately known as "Tommy", the second of two children born to Walter L. and Minnie E. Hutchinson, was born on June 5, 1941 in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. He departed this life on Thursday, December 14, 2017 after a lengthy illness.

Tommy lived his early life in Moncks Corner, SC, where he attended the Berkeley County Public Schools until the age of eight. He finished his education graduating from Boston Trade School, Boston, MA, where the family had relocated.

Tommy met and wedded Lela Ann Turner of Atlanta, GA on November 11, 1960. This union was blessed with five children: Thomas Christian (Chris) Hutchinson, Tanya (Tan) Yvette Hutchinson-Roach, Stacey (Stace) Ann Hutchinson, Walter (Wally) Louis Hutchinson and Mark (Markie) Wade Hutchinson. Two sons, Walter and Mark, preceded him in death.

Tommy began his working career as a Cabinet Maker, Carpenter and Construction Laborer with the Carpenter's Union Local #33 in the early 1960s until his retirement in 2003. Tommy and his family moved to 26 Johnston Road, Dorchester, MA in 1968, where Tommy lived his life traveling, enjoying family, friends and acquaintances for much of his years. He then relocated back to Summerville, SC with his mother and sister in the fall of 2005.

Tommy was truly a loving and caring son, brother, father, grandpa and nephew to many who knew him, always extending or giving of himself to be of service to whomever, it did not matter. Tommy never said the word "NO".

Tommy was a faithful member of Refuge Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Roxbury, MA for many years and then with Triumphant Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in St. Stephen, SC until his departure, always teaching and showing his children the way. His faith never wavered, trusting and believing God for his deliverance. Even through his sickness, Tommy maintained his wonderful sense of humor that would make anyone laugh. He enjoyed traveling (DRIVING) throughout the United States and to Disney World; but most of all fishing and golf were his passion sports.

Tommy took great care of his mother, father, sisters and children throughout his life. He gave homecare to his mother until her departure in 2016. He was looked upon as a friend, advisor, listener and a hard worker.

He leaves to cherish his enduring and unfading memory: his loving children, Thomas Chris Hutchinson (Anne) and Tanya Y. Hutchinson-Roach both of South Carolina and Stacey A. Hutchinson-Wilson (Anthony) of Georgia; eight grandchildren, M. Kristina, Elyssa, Sean, Lauren, M. Nicholas, Leah, Trevor and A. Tyler; five great-grandchildren, Quadir, Shakara, Seannice, Marley and Arian; two sisters, Betty J. Hutchinson and Gwendolyn M. Crawford; additional family members: Troy & Ryan Crawford, Mother Evelyn Crawford & Family, Mother Anna Shelton, Mr. Isaac and Mrs. Sandra Wright; Ms. Claudia Hamby, Ms. Barbara Daniels; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
