Obituary

Vermelle Rhodes Kinloch, affectionately known as Verm, was born on April 6, 1954 in Charleston, South Carolina to the late William F. Rhodes and Verline Ward Rhodes. From this union, twelve children were added to their family. On April 10, 2023, without hesitation, her Heavenly Father relieved her of all her earthly duties, her sickness and pain and He received Vermelle into His loving arms.

Vermelle grew up in the small town of Shulerville, SC. She was a country girl who loved her family and her community. Vermelle learned at an early age how to cook, nurture and protect her family.

Vermelle was very intelligent and outgoing. While attending Macedonia High School, she participated on the step team as a high-stepper and she was involved with many other organizations. She graduated from Macedonia High School in 1972. She initially wanted to go into the military, but decided to go to college instead. Vermelle graduated from Texas College in Tyler, TX with a Bachelor's Degree in Science. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and was very proud of her accomplishments.

Vermelle was a very popular and lovable person on campus. Everyone loved her for her personality, grace and beauty. You would often see her stepping with the Texas College Marching Band as a Sterrett. She became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where she was a Dean of Pledgees and served as President for two years.

After college, Vermelle came back home and married her loving husband, Jones Kinloch on June 17, 1978. Jones and Vermelle had two children, Amanda Richardson and Jones Kinloch, Jr. She worked as a teacher in early childhood development at Cainhoy Elementary School until she became a housewife.

Vermelle became a member of World Harvest Ministries and worked in the nursery for many years. She was loved by many because of her kind heart and loving personality.

On August 12, 1997, Vermelle and Jones Sr. welcomed their first grandchild, Alexis Briana. They both affectionately raised Alexis as their own child. On May 16, 2019, Jones Kinloch III was born. Both Alexis and Jones III took on their grandmother's features and personality. Vermelle loved her grandchildren unconditionally.

Vermelle accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized.

Vermelle was preceded in death by her siblings, Florence Rhodes, Bernadette Rhodes, Felder Rhodes, Nathaniel Rhodes, Juanita Rhodes Smith, Oleather Rhodes Richardson and Ida Mae Rhodes Smith.

Vermelle leaves to cherish her loving memories: her loving and devoted husband of 44 years, Jones Kinloch, Sr.; her loving children, Amanda (Shannon) Richardson and Jones (Juli) Kinloch, Jr.; her loving grandchildren, Alexis and Jones Kinloch III; her special grands, Jasmine Hawkins, Jaleen Richardson and Jeremiah Richardson; her siblings, Frank (Sharon) Rhodes, Henry (Pauline) Rhodes, Georgia Ann (David) Richardson and Charles Rhodes; her sisters-in-law, Levolia Rhodes, Mary Smalls, Marie Harris, Alice Kinloch and Carrie Kinloch; her brother-in-law, Sandie (Frankie) Kinloch; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
