IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia A.
Baylor
July 22, 1942 – July 26, 2023
It comes with great sadness to announce the passing of Mrs. Virginia Ann Baylor of Chesapeake, VA. Virginia, affectionately known as Jenny or Vickie to many, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 years old in her home surrounded by family.
Jenny was born on July 22, 1942 in Norlina, North Carolina to Willie and Leathie Thornton. She was one of two children. She moved to the Bronx, New York as a teenager where she attended and graduated from Jane Addams High School.
She met and married Charles after dating for five and a half years. They were married for 65 and a half years until her untimely death.
Jenny received Christ as her Lord and Savior in New York City while first attending St. Paul Community Baptist Church and then attending Christian Cultural Center. She moved to Virginia in 2000 and joined Grove Church in 2004. There she served as a door greeter, member of the senior ministry and was involved with hospitality. Virginia loved the word of God and was a devoted Christian who read the whole Bible through and through every year.
Virginia was a remarkable cook and always maintained a neat and clean home environment of her family. She was a loving, caring, supportive and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, daughter and friend who will be missed abundantly. She also led a very active and fulfilling life consisting of attending church and its various functions, bike riding, weekly line dancing/zumba/yoga classes, socializing with friends and traveling on her Caribbean cruises.
Before becoming a wife/domestic engineer, she held a variety of jobs: cashier at Klein's Department Store in New York City, hospital clerk and office receptionist.
Virginia is survived by: her husband, Charles; daughter, Charlene/Lisa; son, Charles Jr./Chuck; grandson, Chantz; a host of other relatives, friends and many surrogate children that she mentored along the way. She absolutely loved going on cruises; she had booked her 58th cruise which was cancelled because of COVID.
Viewing will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Baylor's Haven Rest Cemetery, Moncks Corner, SC.
