Obituary

Wieh Gbalee "George" Kun entered into eternal rest Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at his home.  He was born January 19, 1942, in Sierra Leone, West Africa. He was the only son of seven children of Doe and Roselyn Kun.

George attended primary school in Freetown. At an early age, the family moved to Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa where he continued his education. He graduated from college with a degree in Forestry.

George loved sports and played golf, chess and soccer.  His love of soccer earned him a place on the national professional team, Invincible Eleven (IE), where he played Right Fielder for four years in Monrovia, Liberia.

Later in life, he came to the United States and pursued his education at New York University (NYU). While attending NYU, he met and married Ruby Morant on September 23, 1973.

George loved being knowledgeable and pursued several degrees and certifications from various colleges and universities, including St. Francis College and Trident Technical College. His accomplishments included: accounting, computer operating systems, airline pilot training, and Certified Grant Specialist.  He was very proficient with the computer and was employed by Berkeley County Government as a Computer Specialist in the Management Information Systems Department. Later he was employed at Georgia Pacific in a computer managerial position. Throughout his life, George loved education and believed in helping others to achieve a good education. As a testament of his belief, he founded his own tutoring business – The After School Learning Center – in St. Stephen, SC.

George was a member of Joshua United Methodist Church, Strawberry, SC. He transferred his membership to New Light United Methodist Church, St. Stephen on Sunday, November 12, 2017.

George was an outgoing person who never met a stranger.  He was a cheerful person who loved to talk and was well versed in many areas.  He will be remembered for his smile, laugh and stories he shared with others.

George leaves to cherish his memory: a loving wife, Ruby Kun of Bonneau, SC; three children, Dr. Samuel George (Dorothy) of London, England, Taille Brown (Pamela) of New York, NY and Aquilla Kun of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, Serenity, Trinity and Samuel; six sisters, Mary, Viola, Juba, Enusnae, Cecila, and Eniqaye all of Monrovia, Liberia; in-laws, Ruth King (Leonard) of St. Stephen, SC, William Morant (Jackie) of Brooklyn, NY, Larry Morant (Linda) of Bonneau, SC; Rev.
