Obituary

Our beloved, Wilfred LaNair Hamilton peacefully transitioned as the sun was rising on the morning of Sunday, March 26, 2023. Wilfred spent his life continuing and building upon the legacy of his forefathers; he lived his life as a servant of the Lord and model steward.  He was the oldest of three children, born to Thomas and Juanita Cooper Hamilton on March 22, 1944, in Moncks Corner, SC.

Wilfred is a product of Berkeley County Schools, graduating from Berkeley Training High, Class of 1964.  After graduating, he moved to Conyers, GA with his aunt and uncle to learn the masonry trade.  This skill enabled him to travel to various cities and experience different communities.  Returning home, he attended trade school for welding and started a career with General Electric.  He continued his welding career at Detyens Shipyard and the Charleston Naval Shipyard.

He was married to Gloria K. Hamilton from 1969 – 1999, and they were blessed with three children: Robin Winifred of Goose Creek, SC, Clifford Samuel (deceased), and Brian Keith of Bluffton, SC.

Wilfred was passionate about helping and assisting both family and friends.  This passion gave him the vision to become an entrepreneur, whereby he founded Hamilton Bail Bondsmen Agency in Moncks Corner, SC, and Hamilton Mobile Home Park in Goose Creek, SC.  This allowed him to support his community in many ways. He was also a member of the SC Bail Agent Association.

He provided lunch during the Christmas Holidays for the Berkeley County Finklea Detention Center and he supported the Mother's Day Dinner Celebration at Mt. Carmel AME Church.

Wilfred believed in mentoring boys and young men; he actively taught morals, values, and life lessons and he dedicated his time to talking with this young generation.  He mentored through this by helping his mentees find their first job and teaching them how to dress for an interview. He treated them with the utmost respect, as this was one of his values.

Wilfred's life centered around his family, providing countless time and resources, including supporting family reunions, visiting and calling family members, and spending time with the sick and shut-in.  He had a heart and passion for the elderly.  He devoted his time and resources to caring for many elders in many ways; he devoted his time by providing personalized care and arranging care plans for home care.

Wilfred leaves to cherish his memory: children, Robin Winifred Hamilton McNeal (Darin) and Brian Keith Hamilton (LaChiana); former wife: Gloria K Hamilton; loving sister: Joann "Jean" Hamilton Walker; grandchildren: Darin "Jay" McNeal, Jr., Starr Bryanne McNeal, Brian Kaleb Hamilton, and Breanna Katelyn Hamilton; aunts, Clara Cooper, Leila Cooper, and uncle, Julius Hamilton (Elizabeth), special nephew, Byron Wesley Walker; devoted assistant, Angelia Smalls; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
