God does it, that men should fear before Him." - Ecclesiastes 3:14 William "Lukie" Smalls, son of the late Sara Smalls-Jones, was born on October 10, 1933 in Bonneau, South Carolina. He entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 30, 2011. William attended the public schools of Berkeley County. After graduating, he moved to Philadelphia, PA and attended St. Joseph's Catholic College until he was drafted into the United States Army where he served two years. William accepted Christ early in life and attended White Chapel Fire Baptized Holiness Church, St. Stephen, SC. He later joined Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Philadelphia, PA. He served on the choir and remained a faithful member until he left to return to St. Stephen, SC, where he joined St. Stephen Baptist Church. Later, William served at Union Hill Baptist Church as a Trustee and choir member. William was employed at Boeing Aircraft in Philadelphia, PA for a number of years. He was later employed at Georgia-Pacific, Russellville, SC and later at Westvaco, Charleston, SC until his retirement. While at Westvaco, he worked as a Shop Steward Supervisor and served as President of Union 508. During his life, William met and married Belinda. William, also known as "Bill" served on the Board of Directors for Berkeley Electric Cooperative, Inc., representing District No. 6, until his untimely passing. Also known to some as "Lukie", "Granddaddy Lukie" and "Old Timer", Bill has left a lot of memories that his loving family will always cherish. William will forever be remembered by: his devoted wife, Rev. Belinda Smalls; eight children, Cherry Broadway of Flint, MI, Valerie Smalls of Greenville, SC, Darrell Smalls of Philadelphia, PA, Dexter (Donna) Smalls and Derek Smalls both of Decatur, GA, Damon Smalls of St. Stephen, SC, Traig Mallard of Summerville, SC and Orrin Mallard of Charleston, SC; a sister, Lorraine Pinckney of St. Stephen, SC; two brothers, Richard Jones of Philadelphia, PA and Kenneth (Candy) Jones of Atlanta, GA; one aunt, Evelyn Legree of Washington, DC; one uncle, Johnny (Essie Lou) Smalls of Holly Hill, SC; his father and mother-in-law, Johnnie (Janie) Smalls of Holly Hill, SC; brothers-in-law, Johnny (Beverly) Smalls of Holly Hill, SC, Arnold Smalls of LaGrange, GA and Antonio (Stephanie) Smalls of Columbia, SC; sisters-in-law, Arlene (Jonathan) Smyth of Homestead, IL, Freda (Yancy) King of Columbia, SC and Sherryce Grant of Boston, MA; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; dear and special friends, Deacon Ed and Minister Anna Milford; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
