Willie Richardson, Jr., son of the late Willie Richardson, Sr. and Essie Elizabeth Gadson Richardson, was born on July 19, 1938. Willie went home to rest on Friday, January 2, 2015, at 4:20 p.m., at Mountainside Medical Center in Glen Ridge, NJ. Willie was raised in Summerville, South Carolina. He received his education in the public school system of Berkeley County. At an early age, he learned about the teachings of Jesus Christ from his mother and father and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at Greater St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church, Summerville, SC. He continued his relationship with Christ at Zion Baptist Church, Newark, New Jersey. In 1963, Willie met Arlene Ferguson of Moncks Corner, SC. They later married and relocated to Newark, NJ. To this union, eight children were born. Willie was preceded in death by his loving wife in 2005; two children, Willie James and Katherine Richardson; three brothers, Moses Richardson, JD Richardson and Virgil Richardson; a sister, Evangelist Ella Mae R. Buie; and a niece, Essie Elizabeth Perry. Willie was gainfully employed at Q-Pak Corporation as a Foreman from 1965 until his retirement in 2000. He joined Mount Herman Lodge #210 on June 20, 1984 where he was a faithful member until his death. Willie, also known as "Duck Leg" in the Archbishop Walsh Homes Housing Community where he resided for fifty years was a pillar of his community and considered a father figure too many. He gave numerous young men jobs and was always willing to help a friend in need. Willie was known for cooking on the grill in the summer, winter, spring and fall. If you needed a ride or to borrow money, he was willing to help if he was able to. His compassion and generosity was immeasurable. He is survived by his children: Cornelius "Neil" Walker (Lavetta) of Fontana, CA, John Henry Ferguson (Wanda) of Fitzgerald, GA, Bobby Richardson, Elizabeth "Libby" Richardson, Taia Richardson and Fatima Richardson McMillan (Shawn) all of Newark, NJ, Keith Richardson of New York, NY, Nathan Miller and Tameka Miller both of North Port, FL; a granddaughter whom he raised, Shantae Gilmer of Newark, NJ; loving surrogate children, Viemae Richardson White (Ivory) of Brooklyn, NY and McCennia "Cookie" Richardson of Summerville, SC; his siblings, Sampson Richardson of Moncks Corner, SC, Sinclair Richardson (Dersette) of Summerville, SC, Elijah Richardson (Deloris) of Newark, NJ and Edna Lary (Ernest) of Moncks Corner, SC; his sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Richardson of Summerville, SC, Isabel Richardson of Brooklyn, NY, Eloise Beverly of New York, NY, Rhoda Cade (Bobby) Cade of Moncks Corner, SC, Betty Ferguson of New York and Marguerite Ferguson of Reading, PA; a brother-in-law, William Ferguson (Mary) of Atlanta, GA; twenty-seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
