IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Willie Myers,
Sr.
February 17, 1935 – May 1, 2022
"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing". - II Timothy 4:6-8
A man of strength, love and compassion, Willie Myers, Sr., son of the late Rev. Frank Myers, Sr. and Queenie Green Myers, was born on February 17, 1935, in St. Stephen, South Carolina. God reached down and gently ushered him home on May 1, 2022.
Willie, affectionately called "Bill", came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at a very early age and was later baptized. He was educated in the St. Stephen public school system, terminating his education in the eighth grade. Bill's father needed his assistance in supporting the family financially. Together, the family worked hard planting vegetables and tobacco. People from all over would come to help and work on the farm, including a beautiful young lady, Inez Mouzon, who cooked delicious meals that was enjoyed by everyone. While in South Carolina, Bill obtained employment at the railroad, and he also delivered ice. The handsome Bill fell in love with Inez; they married on October 5, 1954, and began their life together in Baltimore, MD.
While in Baltimore, Bill worked at the Bethlehem Steel Corporation. He was employed at Mayfield's Garage where he developed a great passion for cars and refined his skills working on them. This passion led Bill to own and operate his very own (Myers Gulf) Gas and Auto Repair station. His commitment kept the station open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. WOW!! Bill's sons Leroy, Willie, Jr., Donald, and his brother Arthur, worked alongside him to make the business a huge success.
Bill's other great joy was racing cars ( Vroom Vroom ). Bill was known to put a sly smile on his face and say…" I can fix any kind of car; make it run perfect, then beat your car in any race" (Don't mess with Bill). Truly, he meant every word he said. It was then that Bill decided to drive tractor trailers. He became an owner/operator with his very own truck. His love of driving influenced his sons and two grandsons to follow in his footsteps. Bill said that driving was not a job, it was an adventure. He was forced to hang up his CDL license at the ripe young age of 83.
On September 14, 1985, Bill married the lovely Brenda Harris. They were blessed with 37 wonderful years together. Praise the Lord!
Bill's family, friends, and beyond describes him as the greatest storyteller, trash talker, and lover of everyone. He had a keen ear to listen to your situation and then he would give great solid heartfelt advice. His heart of gold led him to plan an annual July barbecue on the family's estate. This affair was open to everyone; free food, fun and fellowship continued for decades. Some of Bill's favorite things were watching television shows, such as "westerns", particularly Gunsmoke, his ride or die football team, The Pittsburgh Steelers, and most importantly, his great love for family and friends.
A LIFE WELL LIVED!
MAY THE WORK I'VE DONE SPEAK FOR ME
