Obituary

A Life's Perspective Willie C. Williams, affectionately known as "CueBall", was born on June 13, 1936 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina. He was a son of the late Willie T. Williams, Sr. and Lue Alma Williams. He was predeceased by three brothers, Willis, Willie T. and Earl, and one sister, Marie. He attended St. Stephen Colored High School and was a member of the first graduating class of Russellville High in 1955, where he was a star football player at "Left Tackle". He attended Morris College on a football scholarship, where he majored in Biology and Theology. After college, he was heavily recruited by the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants, but was sidelined by a knee injury. He moved to New York and worked in the showroom of famed clothier, Nancy Grier. While in New York, he joined with Ina Mae Frances Jones and to this union one daughter, Sandra, was born. He later married Carolyn Clements and raised a step-daughter Linda. He moved from New York to Bayonne, New Jersey in 1964, and shortly thereafter, joined the postal service and became a mail carrier from 1965-1977. He was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Jersey City, New Jersey, where he served as Superintendent of Sunday School for 15 years, and was also the Director of the Youth Fellowship and worked with the Male Chorus. He had many gifts and talents and was a scholar among scholars. He was extremely knowledgeable about the Bible and traveled the world visiting the Holy Land several times. He could cook, clean, and sew and was a great conversationalist. In Bayonne, he (and his brother) loved entertaining friends and was a music aficionado, well versed in gospel, blues and jazz, and even enjoyed a stint as a bouncer at the legendary "Savoy" Ballroom in New York. He moved back home to St. Stephen in 1977 and opened his own business, WCW Construction. He enjoyed working with his hands and doing construction work. He especially enjoyed doing the intricate fine details, and much of his work still endures and can be seen in buildings and homes throughout Berkeley County. He ran several other businesses and also built and managed "Pier 52" Nightclub in St. Stephen. In October 2008, he decided to have a long awaited knee surgery, and went through rehabilitation and aftercare until January 2009, when he was released and so excited to go home. He resumed overseeing several construction projects until the Lord took him home on Friday, February 20, 2009. He leaves one loving daughter, Sandra M. Jones, of St. Louis, MO; a sister-in-law, Caroline Williams, of St. Stephen, SC; four special nieces, Iva Mae (Woodrow) Armstrong of St. Stephen, SC, Bernice Hall Williams of Bayonne, NJ, Yvonne Forrest of Seabrook, TX, and Crystal M. Broughton of St. Stephen, SC; one cousin, Lue Alma Terry of Varnville, SC; four dedicated friends, Naomi Fashion, Susan Perkins, Willie Lou Butler, all of St. Stephen, SC and Christopher Williams of Philadelphia, PA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
