Obituary

Willis White, son of the late Washington and Elizabeth White, was born on July 29, 1929 in Bonneau, South Carolina. He departed this life on June 1, 2013 at his residence in St. Stephen, SC. "Murray", as he was known to family and friends, was educated in the Berkeley County schools. After serving his country in the United States Army, he attended South Carolina State College, Orangeburg, SC for two years. On August 25, 1959, Willis was united in holy matrimony to Mozelle Bryant. They moved to New York for three years and returned to St. Stephen, SC. This union was blessed with five children. Mozelle preceded him in death. "Murray" was employed at the Charleston Naval Shipyard for twenty-six years before retiring. After retirement, he became a school bus driver for thirteen years. He loved volunteering his time to help others. He was active in the PTA and served in several capacities: President, Title I Committee member, Integration Committee member, and Treasurer of the District PTA. He also volunteered with the St. Stephen EMS and the Russellville Fire Department. His Christian journey began in Mt. Carmel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Moncks Corner, SC. While at Mt. Carmel, "Murray" served as a Steward, and he sang on the choir. He later joined Day Dawn Baptist Church where he sang on the choir. He was preceded in death by two children, Barbara Johnson and Carl Scott. Those left to cherish his memories are his children: Donna (Eric) Singleton, Thelma (Robert) Pringle, Willis J. White, Janet Singleton, Zelledean White, Terine P. Smalls and Willisean Singleton; six stepchildren: Gloria Brown, Mackey Williams, Jr., Clifford Williams, Ricky Williams, Alonzo Williams and Carolyn Jamison; one sister, Betty White; one brother, Freddie White; three sisters-in-law: Aline White, Ada Bryant and Geneva (William) Boyd; four brothers-in-law: Thomas (Cassandra) Bryant, Isiah (Cathy) Bryant, Leroy (Lisa) Bryant and Joseph (Janice) Jenkins; one aunt, Dorothy Maybank; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
