IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Winston L.
"Pop" Simmons
June 4, 1945 – January 27, 2018
Winston, son of the late Joseph and Christine Richardson Simmons, was born on June 4, 1945 in Moncks Corner, SC. Following a well-lived life, on Saturday, January 27, 2018, he transitioned peacefully from earth to heaven surrounded by his loved ones.
Winston, affectionately known as "Pop", was reared in Longridge and was educated in the public school system of Berkeley County. He graduated from Berkeley Training High School in 1964. Winston was a member of Greater St. James AME Church. He loved his church family and enjoyed worshipping with family and friends. Winston accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior as a result of the example and teachings of his mother and father.
Winston met the love of his life following high school. Following an eight-month courtship, he married Joan "Topsy" Greene on October 15, 1966. Their union was blessed with two children, Carlton Dwan and Latrica Niea'. Winston and Joan experienced true love for each other for over 51 years. Later in life, after he experienced some difficulties with his hearing and she had vision challenges, he often stated that he was her "eyes" and she was his "ears". Their strong love and devotion to each other were clear and evident.
Winston was employed at Robert Bosch and enjoyed a fruitful career there for over 30 years. He never met a stranger and his kindness and enthusiasm for life were felt by a vast network of colleagues and friends. A life-long Green Bay Packers fan, Winston thoroughly enjoyed watching his beloved team play. He would often wear his Packers gear to demonstrate his strong enthusiasm for "his team". Upon his retirement, Winston spent time traveling, enjoying outdoors activities, and spending cherished time with his wife, family and friends.
Winston was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Christine Simmons; his daughter, Latrica; and sister, Geranium Whitty.
God blessed him to be a part of a large, loving family and Winston's final days were spent surrounded by loved ones who compassionately cared for him. His warm personality will always be remembered.
